TFL English Test Date Extended to 30 April 2019 May 23, 2018 – Posted in: Private Hire News – Tags: , , , , ,

Once again Transport for London has extended the deadline for the TfL English Test for Private Hire minicab drivers in London.  The new date is 30 April 2019, which is a change from the expected 16 July 2018 deadline set after their last amendment.

Here is the update document from TfL for the TfL English Test.

What does this mean?

Drivers who have applied for their new PCO licence or renewed their PCO licence on or before 14th October 2016 will have until 30th April 2019 to provide evidence for the TfL English language requirement.

If your current renewal date falls after this date, then you will need to provide the evidence at the time of application. If you are applying new, then you have until 30th April 2019.

What are the changes in the new TfL English Test?

As far as we can tell, TfL still requires a level B1 or above to meet the requirements.  They plan to work with their chosen test centres to create a test that is more relevant to the job of a private hire driver.

Can I still do alternative courses?

As per the TfL English Requirement Guidance, drivers may still submit certificates that are at the B1 or higher level.  Some drivers have already received their approval letters and will not need to take any further tests.
