Uber drivers ordered to re-do CRB Criminal Background Check September 4, 2017 – Posted in: Private Hire News – Tags: approved-crb-check, criminal-background-check, tfl-approved-crb, tfl-ban-uber-crb, tfl-crb, tfl-criminal-check, tfl-dbc, tfl-new-crb, tfl-new-rules, uber-crb, uber-ignition, uber-uk
Drivers who applied for their Private Hire PCO Drivers licence through Uber’s ignition service are being ordered by TfL to re-do their DBS CRB Criminal Background checks due to the recent increase in reported crimes involving Uber drivers. The number of crimes reported against Uber drivers have doubled in the last year.
Transport for London has ordered around 13,000 Uber drivers to apply for a new criminal record check. These drivers used Ubers own CRB DBS checking service Onfido, instead of the TfL approved CRB service provider.
Private hire drivers who have been issued a letter will have 28 days to apply for a new CRB via the TfL approved CRB provider. TfL will no longer accept any third party CRB checks from any other company except for their approved CRB provider. Private hire drivers who do not apply for a new CRB risk losing their private hire licence.
The move to do this is for the safety and security of the public and TfL’s on-going efforts to improve the private hire industry.
If you did you CRB with Uber and now need to apply for a new TfL approved CRB, then Driver View PCO Licence Centre can help process your CRB through TfL’s approved CRB provider. Visit our TfL Approved CRB section to learn more.
